i was traumatized by the roald dahl biography too, after having collected and read everything he’s ever written.
same thing when i saw the movie “the life and death of peter sellers”…such a brilliant comedian, yet such an asshole!
and anais nin. i read her when i was an adolescent and felt like such an intellectual, then i read a biography written by someone who really had it in for her and from then on she just seemed like a pretentious egocentric adulterous slut…

I’m sure that many of my own heroes (Henry Miller, Hunter S. Thompson, Jim Morrison) were bigger assholes with greater frequency than yer average punk. And let’s not even consider the unassailable masters of comedy: Oscar Wilde, Andy Kaufman, Lenny Bruce… Hmm are women nicer people, or they not achieved the stature (in the world or in my mind) as all these pricks I mentioned?
