I\u2019ll wear these high\/low style with a worn-out tee and skinnies\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>-Maureen, copywriter. <\/strong><em>( re Pedro Garcia shoes )<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>How many things are wrong with this statement from today\u2019s front page at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shopbop.com\/ci\/features\/obsessions\/july\/obsess_july_02.html\" target=\"_blank\">Shopbop<\/a>, in a feature called Shopbop Obsessions?<\/p>\n<p>This is what\u2019s ruining online fashion for me. I can\u2019t take the jargon. It is killing me. I am almost numb to the use of \u201crock\u201d as a synonym for \u201cwear.\u201d But not quite. I can\u2019t bear the word \u201cobsessed\u2019\u2019 used as a substitute for I Love. When I read the words \u201cI\u2019m obsessed with this new lipstick by NARS,\u201d I picture some girl who can\u2019t stop thinking about the lipstick, maybe even stalking the lipstick for all I know. Can\u2019t the term \u201cobsession\u201d still keep its meaning?&nbsp;\u00a0 \u201cAwesome\u201d used to mean something, too. Now, if you see the Northern Lights or the Grand Canyon, you will need to say \u201cThe sight was breathtaking.\u201d Awesome is what you say now when someone says \u201cDinner\u2019s ready.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t stand the infantilisms either. The Brits do it more for some reason, but the US is catching up. Hoodie, lippie, cardie, booties, and now, apparently, \u201cskinnies.\u201d&nbsp;\u00a0 Eeoow! Ugh!<\/p>\n<p>Calling shoes \u201ckicks\u201d may be years old but it still feels like a knife in my stomach when I see this word. How about \u201cmixing it up\u201d as a fashion term? Jesus, am I the only one with an oversensitive ear?<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a \u201cfan\u201d has \u201csuggested\u201d that I am an exhibitionist. Okay then!
