{"id":1775,"date":"2009-04-11T01:29:59","date_gmt":"2009-04-11T09:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.godammit.com\/?p=1775"},"modified":"2009-04-11T11:22:11","modified_gmt":"2009-04-11T19:22:11","slug":"quote-of-the-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/godammit.com\/quote-of-the-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Quote of the day (Updated)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russian Socialite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/08\/17\/arts\/design\/17voge.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dashu Zhukova<\/a> opened a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk\/blogon\/art_news\/the_opening_of_francois_pinaults_collection_at_garage_ccc_moscow\/5510\" target=\"_blank\">exhibition<\/a> of contemporary art at her gallery in Moscow, called the Garage. It is <span class=\"blacktext_natural\"> housed in one of Russia&#8217;s architectural masterpieces, the former Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, designed in 1926 by the architect Konstantin Melnikov. It is the largest exhibition venue in Moscow. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The exhibit features pieces from the <span class=\"blacktext_natural\">Fran\u00c3\u00a7ois Pinault Foundation Collection, including art by Jeff Koontz and one of my personal favorites, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/images.google.com\/images?q=Subodh%20Gupta&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;sa=N&amp;hl=en&amp;tab=wi\" target=\"_blank\">Subodh Gupta<\/a>. Check out his piece below, called U.F.O.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.godammit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/subodh_gupta_ufo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1776\" title=\"subodh_gupta_ufo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.godammit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/subodh_gupta_ufo-300x200.jpg?resize=300%2C200\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/godammit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/subodh_gupta_ufo.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/godammit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/subodh_gupta_ufo.jpg?w=730&amp;ssl=1 730w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He has been called India&#8217;s Damien Hirst, which I think is demeaning and not even apt.<\/p>\n<p>During a two hour symposium following the exhibit,&nbsp;\u00a0 artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artforum.com\/diary\/id=22330\" target=\"_blank\">Francesco Vezzoli<\/a> drew a comparison between his use of celebrity and Koons\u2019s Michael Jackson works; the dapper Italian found it important to add,<strong> \u201cI personally do not like to claim that I have integrity.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What a breath of fresh air! If only more artists and public figures would emulate this candor!<\/p>\n<p>Update:&nbsp;\u00a0 I forgot to mention artist&nbsp;\u00a0 <strong>Marion Tampon-Lajarriette, <\/strong>who was also in attendance.<strong> <\/strong> Her name alone is Art, is it not?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.godammit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/marion-tampon-lajarriette.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1779\" title=\"marion-tampon-lajarriette\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.godammit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/marion-tampon-lajarriette-150x150.jpg?resize=150%2C150\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Russian Socialite Dashu Zhukova opened a new exhibition of contemporary art at her gallery in Moscow, called the Garage.
