The Lourdes Project

I was obliged to find some photos of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes for a work project. I think Lourdes is a beautiful little girl, but at eleven years old, she is already blessed with an impressive unibrow and moustache.

The moustache is going to be quite noteworthy as she moves through puberty. What does everybody think?

Should Lourdes stick with her natural beauty and perhaps look towards joining a circus, or should she succumb to Western culture and seek electrolysis?

Remember, it was once said of Gertrude Stein that when she entered a room, she made other women’s upper lips look positively naked!

I bet Miss M will force the issue.

As a woman, one of the most radical things you can do, appearance-wise, is to not remove facial hair. I read a story (I think in “The Sun” literary mag) by a woman who was very furry and decided to leave it natural. The reactions she got were severe!

Have you seen the documentary about Bukowski? One of his exes appears in it and she has a classic nanny-goat goatee – it is full and maybe 3 inches long. I could not look away!

  3. Sister Wolf says:

I think I did see that documentary….but I don’t recall her goatee. I must go search for it now.

This is a tough one. I’m all for girls being themselves which is to say, being natural. But her case is rather notable. The hair is very pronounced pre-pubescently and she is, for better or worse, destined to be in the public eye through her entire transition to adulthood. If she likes herself the way she is, and has the moxy to do nothing, well that would be impressive. However, if she dislikes it – or fears ridicule – I think she’s going to have to take action. Just hope the adults in her life support her in making a decision she’s comfortable with.

Ok you are a cunt! join the circus?!! Was that necessary?

  6. Sister Wolf says:

    Not only necessary, mandatory!

  7. Sonja says:

in all seriousness, this is what i think the story is. her mother, in her new life as a serious person, is really trying to teach and support her daughter about self acceptance – and perhaps is successfully (given the mustache) holding back the tides of self abuse, or is attempting to see that her daughter lives her full childhood without getting obsessed with the shit that we all seem to be obsessed about, (or why would we be talking about it). Then again, perhaps she’s decided that Lourdes is the reincarnation of Freda Kahlo. that’s my final answer. Madonna is convinced that her daughter is the reincarnation of Freda.

She really is a beautiful girl. While I personally am not ballsy enough to grow out a full ‘stache were I able to, I WOULD TOTALLY grow out a soul patch if I could. There’s something exceptionally charming about a woman that’s comfortable in her natural skin. I think she should let those hairs fly!

  9. Sister Wolf says:

I agree. I personally wear my underarm hair as a badge of honor.

If only you could grow a soul patch!!!!

  10. WendyB says:

LOL. I have avoided commenting on this because she’s just a kid, and I’m glad her mother hasn’t forced her into anything. But really, she has more hair than the average girl her age, and I’d be in favor of plucking. Frida Kahlo was Frida Kahlo. We can’t all be her.

  11. her mother’s called herself a gay man trapped in a woman’s body. i don’t know how that’s relevant, but I think Lourdes is gorgeous. She’s a darling little hirsute monkey. Unlike other obnoxious celebrity children, I would love to see Lourdes become a positive cultural icon… a poster child for the sleek (all over) haired lady.

  12. Mark says:

I imagine Madonna is just as furry. I also suspect that Madonna has the best team of eye-brow and mustache people in the world.

Lourdes is pretty, though. And she seems to be working something with those giant poetry glasses. Good for her.

  13. Mark says:

Why I hyphenated “eyebrow” I’ll never know.

  14. Mark says:

Why I didn’t use a comma in the above sentence, I’ll never know.

  15. Sister Wolf says:

Mark, we are not linguists here, please relax.

Toby Lynne and Marmelade Wombat, I’m with you on her beauty. A ‘darling hirsure monkey’ is EXACTLY my response to her. I’ve suddenly remembered the film “Human Nature” which features a woman covered with hair. Anyone seen that?

  16. Yes! sister wolf! me me. I’ve seen that film. It was so disturbing and weird…yet sexy at the same time! It’s with crooked toothed patricia from medium.

  17. Lady K says:

My prediction is that it will be gone within a year. I agree, she is indeed beautiful.

  18. Eemmus says:

maybe she will set a new trend and we will never have to pluck, shave or wax ever again.

  19. Malina Berman says:

Madonna’s daughter is beautifull and her facial features eyebrows mustache and all are perfect , They add to her mysterious tough girl beauty that she inherited from her mother . Androgeny expressed is embodied spiritual qualities of the masculine and feminine within …it should not be denied but celebrated…
