Fashion Victims Unite!

Do you find yourself craving those stupid rolled-up boyfriend jeans that Katie Holmes has been bothering us with? Don’t worry, you’re just reacting like a consumer, tirelessly trained by the advertising industry to buy whatever is deemed the New Thing.

The reason you want them is also because they look different from the jeans you already have. If the fashion marketers didn’t persuade you that what you already have is uncool and out of style, they would go out of business! You know that, right? But you still want those stupid jeans!

You want them, and you’d prefer the ones by Current/Elliott, because their publicists have been working around the clock to make you aware of them.

But guess what? They’re stupid! You won’t look good in them, and you’ll have to explain to your boyfriend why you’re wearing them instead of the tight jeans he’s accustomed to seeing on you. You will have no decent excuse, believe me.

Instead of responding to a new fashion imperative, why not consider resisting it! This item is the perfect one to renounce.   Imagine the freedom to ignore all fashion rules, or to make up your own.

Let’s admire Anna Piaggi and her friend Viv. They would never have taken the bait of those stupid jeans!

I can’t wait to flaunt my Acne slouchy jeans in front of you. ;-P
At one point everyone declared they would NEVER wear skinny jeans again, and that those NEVER looked good on anyone. And….

  2. enc says:

    Who’s Current/Elliott? 😉

  3. Aja says:

I have boyfriend jeans already which I love and wear on more casual days. However if I ever start to wear them rolled up and cuffed like that, you have full permission to slap me.

  4. Skye says:

I like finding old stuff or thrifted stuff to kind of try out new trends (like the rolled up jeans), I get a lot of silly fun out of that. Spending lots of money and/or feeling bad if you don’t have the latest trend is not something I’m interested in though.

Anna Piaggi legitimately rules the earth though!

  5. hammie says:

I think they look like you were crossing a river and had to roll them up quickly. But I am with Skye, if you buy second hand you can try out a “trend” and then donate it back when it sucks. The extra weight would make the jeans hang wrong on me, which I why I always end up customising with scissors.
Can I get an Anna Piaggi tattoo?
    xx

  6. Sister Wolf says:

Yes, Hammie, please do! I’m just hoping I get to slap Aja!

WendyB and Skye – I’m just hoping to save the unconverted. I know you two are pro-boyfriend jeans.

enc – You’re so cute when you get like that, xo!

  7. annemarie says:

aaaaah you are so right, so right, but i know i’m going to wear them anyway, just like i said i’d never wear high-waisted, or skin-tight…in fact, i already did wear a pair like this last week, just pegged an old pair. i thought they looked really cute. i thought zombie holmes also looked cute in hers. but what would i know. i’m obviously a zombie too. brainwashed. impressionable. stupid.
however, if you too find yourself contemplating these, one day, maybe next summer when it’s too hot for tight ones, i think you should send all of us five bucks each.

  8. Jools says:

    Woopsie
I’ve been wearing these for years and years. When I read about the Current/Elliot jeans I was happy to see I would at last be au courant/elliot. I think Katie looked really bad in hers. I probably do too.

  9. WendyB says:

I’m converting them faster than you can save them, Sister Wolf:

  10. dewayne says:

my girlfriend wears normal girl jeans and rolls them up sometimes, when it’s super-hot out. you know, not any sort of fashion thing…i think she’s about as anti-fashion as i am. most of the time she just wears pajama pants or running shorts. or her cosmotology scrubs.

also, guess what! your favorite molten ball of rage is going to be a father…take that, anti-natalists! hopefully my spawn will be twice as rage-filled as i, and successfully exterminate our species.

    until then, let’s pray!

  11. Bex says:

GOd i fucking hate those rolled up jeans. Imnot against wearing boyfriend jeans tho, just not rolled up.

  12. honeypants says:

I don’t have the body for trends. I wear what looks good on me and what I like, trends be damned! I have always liked flares that are tight on the ass and thighs. Goes with my hourglass shape…

I *hate* the expression “boyfriend jeans.” Aside from the fact that it’s so Seventeen Magazine, it implies that one must be a teensy little waif whose boyfriend is a burly dude’s dude. If my scrawny boyfriend even owned jeans and I tried to wear them, I’d look more like Anna Piaggi than Katie Holmes! (which technically, is a good thing, but that’s beside the point).

  13. I would like to baptize these “rollies,” as in “I heart my rollies.”

  14. hoochiegucci says:

I love how some of the tabloids jumped on the fact that Katie Holmes wearing “Tom Cruise’s jeans rolled up” as if!!!!!

Girlfriend most definitely would not be rolling them up if they belonged to that midget.

  15. sm says:

you are very closed minded. you should be open to all trends and not just the ones you like. YOU are stupid and overly opinionated for someone with no taste.

  16. Sister Wolf says:

    annemarie -It’s a deal!

Jools – If you are ahead of a trend, then you rule.

WendyB – Your influence is daunting. Use if for Good!

dewayne -Fucking fuckers! That’s fucking awesome! I feel like I’m going to be a grandma!!!

Bex and Honeypants – Stay strong, you two!

fashionherald – Hahahahaha! I heart my skinnies.

    Hoochie – yep, as if.

sm – okay, good to know!

  17. the bagginess around the crotch is too difficult. i would much rather the same shape in a pair of calm pleated slacks.

i want to look like viv and her friend when i’m matured!

  18. Aja says:

    Is sm crazy muffin lady?

  19. Sister Wolf says:

Hahahahaha! Nope, it’s someone named Lizzie or something.

  20. Nicole says:

Maybe this was just a craze in Australia but circa 1990 the trend was to wear baggy jeans rolled up to mid calf and then really long thick sock gathered around the ankles with a brogue type shoe. Hideous! But as a tween/teenager you had to wear it to fit in. Sister Wolf you’re so right! We need to be unique in our interpretation of “fashion”.

PS. I do wear one pair of baggy, ripped jeans rolled up once because they’re too long for my 5’7 legs (ok, 5’6). I’ve been doing it for years, even when it wasn’t cool. Don’t slap me!
