Open-Back Boots

I was going to pose the question, “These boots would be good for ___”, but Net-a-porter has already explained it!

“LD Tuttle’s open-back taupe leather boots exude directional downtown cool.”

So the mystery is solved.   They are good for for exuding directional downtown cool. I never would have guessed in a million years!

I was going to fill in the blank with “nothing.” They look like what you would do after your dog had chewed off the backs.

  2. Kelly says:

Aww…Sheri you beat me to it!

  3. Sandra B says:

Spending half an hour trying to decide whether or not you should wear socks with them? Do they make backless socks to go with?

  4. Cricket9 says:

They are un peu trop directional for me, but they would go well with these backless chaps so loved by gay porn.

  5. Another old biddy says:

For when you want the blisters on the back of your heels to heal without resorting to wearing flip flops.

  6. littlebadwolf says:

a great gift for the ‘ah, ya mudda weahs combat boots’ mother on mother’s day……

  7. sally onion says:

  8. WendyB says:

Backless (sort of) socks! This is what you wear with those shoes to exude directional downtown cool.

  10. Sister Wolf says:

    Taylor – Hahahahhahahaha! Ugh!

  11. sam says:

None of it makes sense anymore – or am getting old?

I always look to this blog for the very latest in fashion-speak and today I am dribbling with pleasure at “exuding directional downtown cool” which, darlings, is just so, so, right as a description of my long Johns!

Incidentally, I can’t help wondering, am I becoming just a teensy-weensy bit boring about my long Johns? You would tell me, wouldn’t you? Of course, I am a dedicated leader of fashion but one does not wish to bore one’s eager followers. Actually, I am about to launch a new craze amongst us chaps because now – wait for it – I moisterize. Oh yes – all over! You see, I have taken up swimming and various friends of the female persuasion assure me that it is essential. So now, six mornings a week in the changing rooms of the Wincanton Sports Centre (er, yes, not quite Olympic standard) the smell of Nivea cream wafts into the chlorine atmosphere. Honestly, girls, my skin is now as smooth as a rhino’s.

Oh dear, I seem to be blathering on, time for my meds again – NURSIE!

  13. Cybill says:

In my part of the world we don’t do “downtowns” (I don’t even really know what that means) so my directional downtown cool will find itself directionless.

  14. Alexandra says:

I weep for yet another victim of the hacking-radom-bits-off-boots trend. When, oh when, will it end? Why did it start? Who likes it and how did their aesthetic become so disturbed? I just don’t get it!

  15. damaia says:

    Dear Fashion,

Please stop making cheap knock-offs of my Ariat boots. No matter how many random panels you remove, your poor imitations will never be as cool as the originals. Also, directional cool? What, as in you’ll know the direction the snow and ice are coming from as they flood the backs of these idiotic boots?

  16. liz says:

ok, i’ll admit i own a pair of flat boots with the toes cut out, but i stopped wearing them two summers ago and they sit in my closet as a constant reminder of hot ankles and cold toes. Anyway, these are..not good.

  17. Emily Bleak says:

It’s like they are specifically designed to flaunt the horrible cracked heels and callouses I developed from clomping around in my big snowboots all winter long. What a horror. :\

  18. Ann says:

There is no reason for those boots to exist.

  19. the real andrea says:

I am one of the few who like the open/closed look of peep toe booties, ( I wore a pair to my daughter’s bat mitzvah party in 2001) but this version is so wrong! They look like something that someone who has an injury to the back of his foot or leg would wear so the air can get at those areas. I clicked on the link to the net-a-porter site and I noticed that they don’t show a back view of it on a person- because they look ridiculous! I predict a quick markdown and the firing of the buyer that ordered these. I also predict many a fashion whore will be seen on blogs around the world wearing these. Any guesses on who will go in for these?

Also Another old biddy and Emily Bleak- spot on!

  20. E says:

The perfect match to those backless hospital gowns!
    Exuding crap more like.
    Sorry (passes mind bleach).

  21. TheShoeGirl says:

I went to shoe design school with the designer of this brand, Tiffany Tuttle. Like the shoes or not, I’m so proud to see my friend’s stuff out there. It’s a trip.

    xo

  22. ali says:

they’re like boot slippers? exuding convenience?

  23. does the downtown cool, include water from puddles, litter blowing in to your boots and the likelihood of dog poo should you have the misfortune to step in any?

  24. Kellie says:

lol!!! that is allI can say.
At least we know what they are good for.
Also-probably-showing all sorts of cracked heels and ugly socks.

Oh, wait-the fashion crowd wouldnt do either…

  25. tartantreacly says:

“LD Tuttle’s open-back taupe leather boots exude directional downtown cool.”

Horrid copy, or the beginning of a beautiful Dadaist poem?

  26. Kathleen says:

…..downtown as in “I lost the back of my boots on a subway escalator?”

  27. Good if you have big feet and can never find shoes to fit.

  28. I don’t know where to begin with these… oh wait, yes I do… the back that isn’t there. How Airy.

  29. Andra says:

Ah Jeez, I’ve spent half my life searching for directional down-town cool and never even considered backless boots.
    Ah well, too late now.
But then again, look how much money I’ve saved.
And, if these fuckers actually HAD backs ….. how much would they be then? $ 900, $ 1,000???
My tiny mind is boggling, yet again.

  30. TexasArt says:

OMG! I actually like these boots. Too funny. What has happened to me. Now … About the cost. Pfft.
