The Tudors: Farewell, Pignose!

I was surprised to find my self addicted to The Tudors, on Showtime, which just had its season finale last week.   It seemed pretty stupid the first time I watched it. That Jonathan Rhys Meyers is such a terrible actor. He seems to think he’s playing Elvis most of the time, or else he’s just glaring insanely. And I’m not really interested in historical drama.

What drew me in was the unforgettable face of Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn. She has what I consider a pig nose, in the best sense of the term. It’s so turned up, you could look right into it. And she held that pignose high, even into death. ( At least I think she did, because I had to close my eyes for that.)

Every Sunday night, I curled up on the couch to see that nose. The production values were excellent, the costumes were beautiful, the plot was full of intrigue, but for me it was all about Natalie Dormer. Her trajectory from devious minx to a deeply tragic figure was so gripping, and superbly acted.   And at the center of her performance was her nose.

I miss her already. I couldn’t care less about Season 3. They’re all dead to me now.

  1. Hahahahaha. Oh my goodness. The pig nose is bloody hypnotic. She should go to Lloyd’s of London and get that beautiful thing insured. And Jonathan Rhys Meyers… I have no comment. but i do have an irrational urge to punch his googly eyed, boney, pouty head.

Oh, I’m certain she’s insured it. Are you kidding? It’s worth ten billion dollars, at least.

And I agree with your no-comment on JRM.

If only I had Showtime. I don’t really need it to see her nose, as I can get a sense of it right here. It’s an “interesting” shape.

This hasn’t shown in the UK yet has it? I must see it! The first season was completely compulsive viewing, even though Natalie Dormer has the same ‘twisted-face’ syndrome as poor Drew Barrymore, neither of them being able to speak without half of their mouth ending up somewhere in the vicinity of their left eye.

    LOL @ “pignose”

Well, I don’t know that the Tudors is “stupid”-perhaps season 1 was, in a fun sort of bodice ripper sort of way. I don’t know that JRM is dreadful as an actor, but I have caught him doing his Elvis sneer many times. (I’ve watched all but the last disc of Season 2-don’t know if I can bring myself to watch the last.)

But Dormer is just so strangely beautiful in a sooo non classical way. It’s not just the pig nose, but her face, damn that is a round face. I actually have a persian faced snowshoe with that face, blue eyes and all. Wish I could show you a pic.

In Casanova, with the blonde hair, Dormer was so well suited for the oh so cherubic rococo look. And in the Tudors I loved her crooked almost sneering smile whenever Anne was plotting.

Won’t be the same without her. I’ve noticed in interviews, in modern day street clothes, you almost don’t notice Dormer’s freakish roundness.

At first when i saw her i thought she was really ugly. That was on hdtv. But about a year later i happened to remember that show and started watching it online. She started to grow on my and now im totally obsessed. I dont know what it is, the nose, those massively cattish eyes which are this amazing blue. They contrast with those pupils. In some scenes u think she has black eyes because of those massive pupils, in others you just cant look past that blue. Not only that, she MADE the whole show. I agree i was pretty much watching it for her, her character and acting was just amazing to watch, and now the other characters just seem petty compared to her. I guess i never really expected the show to go past her death because she was such a pivotal character….. anyway. That sneer, that smile that pout.. OH oooh ooh!!

Natalie’s pig nose completely slipped past me as I was so focused on her stranger than strange MOUTH! That ugly mouth pretty much ruined the Anne character for me. However, I did enjoy Jonathan!
