I am hereby launching an exciting new feature called “Why did I buy this?” The hope is that someone can suggest a way I can wear the item in question, rather than continue to avoid making eye-contact with it in my closet or under the bed (where the unworn shoes go.)
I don’t know what I was thinking when I bought this black overall thing, but I remember really wanting it. It’s made of very lightweight wool, and the top part is very slouchy.
I would never, ever wear it with a blouse like the model is wearing, since I am not a milk-maid. Remember, as I stated somewhere recently, “Sister Wolf takes her fashion cues from Patti Smith, Morticia Addams, Keith Richards, and a Jewish grandma circa 1975.”
How about a white tank top and lots of bangles? A black t-shirt? A fitted white shirt? Ugh, right? I’m stumped. I’m not afraid of looking too manly, but I am afraid of frilly and I hate anything that might be called boho.
Well, there it is. Help a Sister out! And if you think this was a wacky purchase, just you wait.
I actually really like it….worn with a simple tee underneath and some ankle boots and the turn up the cuffs a bit, it could look really really cool…
Personally, I’m in love with this:

…and think it would look fantastic under those. With a leather cuff.
I think a simple t-shirt is the way to go. And I’m always a big fan of bangles, so I support that suggestion. Susie’s booties suggestion seems really cool too. I also think some chunkier gladiator style sandals, like the ever popular Heech from Nine West would look cool with a cuff at the ankle.
Will you post a pic when you wear it? pretty please?

So funny! One could devote a whole blog to this question . . . But sometimes what seems like a fashion slip-up can turn out to be the best purchase you ever made (like a black squined La Petite Salope bustier I once bought at a sample sale). I rather like the outfit, especially the blouse!
I vote for the simple white t-shirt.
i love your overalls!
just a plain white tee, or something floaty and feminine to balance out the masculinity of the suit. Roll up the trouser leg into the 7/8ths trend and add some chunky heels. bangles look good, but keep jewellery gold and ethnic.
hope this helps! 🙂 x
I love this feature! I would totally wear it with a jewel toned scoop neck T and a slouchy (but slim) grey cardigan. Oh and with gladiator heels. (Have any of those under the bed??) I think you could rock this look so easily SW. Not a bad purchase at all…
Oh my, I am getting excited. I think I may get to wear this thing, after all!
Susie B, I don’t even remember if I have ankle boots, I’m going to look under the bed.
Tobie Lynn, why do they want so much $$ for that T?!?! Bastards!
Wendy and Molly, okay, I do have white t-shirts, check.
Couture Carrie, I want that damn bustier!
Julie and K-Line, no gladiators for me, except for those ridiculous gladiator spats I bought during some kind of brain outtage.
Why did you buy it? that’s the question, right? Forgive me, but it kinda looks like it would be great for my friend’s 13 yr old daughter, Phoebe … don’t be mad, you know I love you.
Oh those young whippersnappers. they wear the darndest things! it looks like something a pouty, messy haired european youth would be wearing on facehunter. You know…stuff that’s borderline mental but imbued with so much coolness it hurts. I think you have the attitude to carry it off!
i’m too chicken. i’ll probably wear a tuxedo blazer over the top of it.
Sonja, you’re absolutely right. I thought I was 13 for a moment
Miss Wombat, a tragic but truthful analysis. But alas, even my attitude has failed on this one.
I vote for a T-shirt that’s NOT white. You don’t want to look like a mime, do you? The whole shoe question is really tricky. I’ve dug to the deepest core of my inner gay fashion asshole, and I can’t come up with shoes. Sorry.
Might I suggest a white tank and silver shoes? 😉
No, really, a white tank and combat boots?
Ooooo…who makes that?
if you don’t want it, i’ll buy it off you!
