Cunt of the Week™: The State of Arizona

A reader nominated this week’s winner and while it’s not often we think of an entire state as a cunt, Arizona is an exception.

Arizona’s Immigration Bill SB1070 means that all immigrants in Arizona must now carry their alien registration documents, and   police can question anyone they think may be in the United States illegally. It will also address people that knowingly hire illegal immigrants or who transport them.

Addressing questions of racial profiling, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer said: “Racial profiling is illegal.”

Ha!

The Governor stated in an executive order that police will require training to help them execute the bill without it becoming racial profiling.

Okay. So the police will be able to stop and question anyone they think may be here illegally, but it won’t be racial profiling.

I don’t understand why such a large segment of Americans wants to pin this country’s problems on immigrants, but you can’t tell me it’s not based on bigotry and racism. “They’re taking our jobs!” is just bullshit. Every single day, I thank a Mexican or Central American immigrant for helping me. The jobs they fill are usually minimum wage but no one is stopping blond caucasions from doing them.

My grandparents were immigrants. America is a melting pot! I hope Arizona’s new Immigration law is repealed but until then, it qualifies at a fucking cunt.

    YES!!! ARYANZONA = COTW!!!

“They’re taking our jobs!” Oh, really? I didn’t realize so many Americans were seeking work in the migrant worker sector! AZ sucks. Jan Brewer sucks. NOT profiling with this bill would be impossible. I highly doubt they are checking paperwork of anyone who isn’t brown. I will not give that state one single cent of my money until this bill is repealed. SO angry.

  2. Dru says:

Sounds like this is the Patriot Act for Spanish-speaking brown people….

And besides, who carries identity documents around with them, anyway? Esp. if you can’t drive and don’t have a driver’s licence (so that can’t serve as one).

  3. Angelica says:

oh good, give cops MORE of an opportunity to be racist and terrorize people for no reason.

  4. Eliza says:

This bill came a week after the governor signed a new concealed carry law allowing people to carry guns without a license or registration. Some papers are more important than others.

  5. Sounds dreadful – yes why do people always blame immigrants?
Arizona got c of the week status in UK a couple of years ago due to a Top Gear programme which got the presenters shot at!

  6. dust says:

Can legal immigrants get the guns without license as well? That would be great!

Alien registration document – there was a time when this was my life ambition
Random legitimation – favorite hobby of Tito’s policeman, I’m not sure if America is aware of how socialist this sounds.

    Nazi cunts!

  7. Jill says:

    Hear Hear!!

  8. Cricket9 says:

Back in communist Poland we had to carry our IDs all the time. Not being able to present an ID, which had to include your current address, was an offense that warranted an arrest; cops could, and frequently did, check it without any reason or need for explanation. My then-boyfriend, an artist from Venezuela doing his post-grad at Fine Arts Academy in Warsaw, was stopped and harassed countless times, just because the cops were curious what the hell a brown-skinned guy is doing in an uniformly white city. I was often asked in scornful tones if “Polish boys are not good enough”. Thank you, State of Arizona, for bringing back the fond memories of a totalitarian regime! How about a barcode tattooed on people’s foreheads?

  9. Juri says:

If I ever come to America I want go through the immigration game in Arizona. I’ll wear my native Sami costume, or dress up as a member of a mariachi band, and tell the immigration officer in my broken English that “I have come for your jobs and your women and want to convert to Islam and join the Communist party as well.”

  10. Bessie the Buddha cow says:

I encourage those who have time to go downtown and join in the May Day march. Those who are far away please rent Food, Inc and watch it. Illegal day laborers are brought in, by the large slaughter houses, to work for cheap at dangerous work, and then the cops/INS agents come and raid one family per night to send them back across the border. There’s overt fascism, and then there’s covert fascism . . . and if we don’t stand up against both now . . . it only gets worse!
And please make sure your dollars talk as loudly as your posts/voices/letters/hearts!
    Thank you very much!!!

  11. David Duff says:

It might, just might, have something to do with the fact that the people living in the border areas are now divorced from American law and order processes because the entire borderland is in the hands of armed drug-dealers and immigrant smugglers and the Federal government under the leadership (stop sniggering!) of ‘St. Barack of Kenya’ don’t give a flying fuck because eventually all those immigrants will vote Democrat. Just suggestin’!

  12. David Duff says:

I do know that facts written by a resident of Arizona’s borderland will be of little interest to all you screechers and squarkers but even so …

  13. Aja says:

I hear hear on the state of Arizona for that cunty law. Honestly, the bigotry in America really gets me down. You’re right. No immigrants taking jobs from any American. As a matter of fact, if we want to complain about the job situation, we should just go ahead and give ourselves a pat on the back for shipping so many jobs overseas and trading our work force for cheaper labor. America needs to start blaming ourselves for the problems and stop pointing fingers at other people. And no American, that I know of can claim that they’re not the ancestors of immigrants. Unless they’re Native American! (And a lot of our ancestors nearly wiped them off the face of the planet, sadly).

  14. Dru says:

David: so the man can see Mexico from his front porch. eh? I guess that makes him an expert on the subject, like the lady you so admire who can see Russia from her backyard or kitchen window, or wherever.

  15. David Duff says:

No, Dru, it makes him something of an expert on the increasingly dangerous life in *Arizona* where the Federal government fails to serve and protect its own citizens.

  16. Cricket9 says:

Mr. Duff, did it occur to you, and The American Thinker, that legalizing (or at least decriminalizing) that damn marijuana could improve the safety of life in Arizona?

  17. Faux Fuchsia says:

    I don’t understand America.

  18. XuXu says:

    I can tell you.
Arizona has been a cunt lo these many years.

The Grand Canyon: perfect physical embodiment
    of the Cunthood to Come.

  19. Jenny says:

Man, Sister Wolf, I love your blog! And you couldn’t pick a better cunt of the week. Not to mention Rachel Maddow’s show recently exposed SB1070’s connection to ya know, NEO NAZIS, and also an organization that has for the past two decades supported eugenics as a method to make sure the natural majority (whites) remain a natural majority in America. So yeah, for sure, cunt queen of all cunts=Arizona and SB1070 and their Neo Nazi friends.

  20. Jess says:

Oh dear it hasn’t been a good week for the state governments. I was sure Oklaholma was going to win this week COTW for their new abortion laws.
Perhaps next week? Not that Arizona is not well deserving of their award.

  21. Aja says:

My comment was full of typos. Oh well, you get the gist of what I’m sayin’.

  22. David Duff says:

‘Cricket9’, perhaps you would do better to address your question to ‘The Wise One’ in the White House because it doesn’t seem to have occurred to him, either.

And how that would stop the people smugglers, I don’t know!

  23. Cricket9 says:

It wouldn’t; the lack of demand for the services provided by these people would. The day people in Ontario will take up backbreaking jobs in Ontario’s farming for the minimum wage, the farmers will stop bringing in seasonal workers from Mexico. Somehow I don’t see it coming any time soon.
As for addressing “The Wise One” – that’s a job for you and Mr. American Thinker. I’m trying to address the same question to our Prime Minister, who’s not listening either.

  24. Iron Chic says:

Cricket 9- What about if the farmers paid more for labor?
Maybe then North American citizens would want those jobs? I never understood that “who would do those undesirable jobs” argument for illegal immigration. Sure, food costs would rise but food is probably too cheap now anyway. Doesn’t this whole thought process sort of condone slavery? Let’s let the illegal immigrants do our shitty jobs for next to nothing…we don’t have to get our hands dirty and they get they get to live in our amazing country!!

  25. Cricket9 says:

I agree that food is too cheap, at least in Canada, but I don’t think I would get consensus on this. The farmers are saying that they can’t make any profit and asking for gov’t subsidies, so it’s very unlikely that they will pay more. The illegal immigrants want to do the shitty jobs for next to nothing, because it’s still much, much better than a shitty job or no job at all in their country. I had illegal summer jobs on the farms in Germany and Holland in the eighties; it was hard, I was paid peanuts, and yet, after returning to Poland I was able to buy a new car (admittedly, a very crappy Fiat 126) paying cash. Poland now has illegal immigration from Belarus and Ukraine – despite high unemployment Poles don’t want to work in farming or minding other people’s children. If I knew what’s the solution to this (elimination of world poverty comes to mind) I could probably get a degree in economy…

  26. Mark says:

I’m from Arizona, and let me tell you, it is as bad as everyone thinks.

  27. Mark says:

Mr. Duff: The **VAST** majority of illegal immigrants are not drug smuggling murderers, but the racist right-wing rednecks seemed to have succeeded in making you, and much of the racist right-wing redneck population, believe that the gun-toting, heroin-dealing, kidnapping Mexicans are coming to get you.

    And I’m from Tucson.

  28. Elena says:

I am from Arizona and this law is total bullshit. I’m really excited for November so I can vote for anyone other than Jan Brewer.

  29. David Duff says:

I assume there is a Mark 1 and a Mark 2. In reply to Mark 2 I didn’t say anything as silly as that. The illegal immigrants are run in by people smugglers who probably double as drug smugglers as well. For goodness sake, you’ve all seen and read what is going on south of the border! Do you really want it in the north? Or are many of you so far north you don’t care? Me? I’m English, but even I care a bit.

By the way, on the whole I approve of illegal immigrants. It takes guts and drive to do what they do and they are the sort of people you could do with – but only on a managed scale. And no, I don’t give a damn whether they’re black, white, polka dot or brown.

  30. Taylor says:

I live in Tempe, Arizona. Let me tell you, “David Duff,” that you’re right… Arizona is becoming more dangerous, but it’s because the wingnut fundamentalists are behaving in ways that are beyond unconstitutional. Arizona passed two other laws in addition to SB1070. One law states basically that you can carry a concealed weapon with no permit. The other states that in 2012, in order for Obama’s name to appear on the election ballot, he will have to show his birth certificate.

I was at Fry’s (grocery store) the other day… there was a guy carrying FOUR firearms. My boyfriend and I left immediately because we were so uncomfortable. There is no reason why (at 4pm, no less) any civilian needs four firearms to go to the fucking grocery store.

This state is full of some of the most bigoted, hateful people I’ve ever come across- and I’m from ALABAMA originally. AND FYI David, many of the people who live in border towns provide water stations for illegal immigrants. Providing one example of an article written by some jackass doesn’t exactly support your claim that everyone in the border towns feels jeopardized.

  31. Mark says:

By “bad as everyone thinks,” I (Mark #1 and #2) meant in terms of right-wing psychos.

Taylor’s anecdote is a perfect example of the kind of trash that (mostly, sadly) populates and runs my home state.

  32. Aja says:

Shit man, Taylor owned this argument. Scary times we’re living in.

  33. David Duff says:

Taylor, no need to put my name inside inverted commas, it’s my real name. As to your main point, I wonder if that rancher who was slaughtered the other day was wearing a gun? I bet his family wish he had been, he might have stood a chance.

This is not really my argument but if ‘y’all’ really want a bit of northern Mexico in southern America then all I can say is ‘go git it, boy!’

  34. Taylor says:

How the fuck you can make a connection between a rancher being slaughtered and a guy carrying four guns inside a grocery store in the middle of the afternoon is beyond me.

  35. Cricket9 says:

Thanks Taylor and Mark, we know now that not everyone in Arizona is a hateful right-wing nut!

  36. Dru says:

    ^ditto to what Cricket9 said.

I have an honest question, though- why are Americans so fixated on gun ownership? Surely it doesn’t take a lot of brains to know that letting people freely carry around big metal sticks that can kill from a distance at the squeeze of a trigger, isn’t good for law and order generally?

  37. Eliza says:

I don’t know, Dru. The NRA and Second Amendment misinterpreters tell everyone more guns equal less violence – somehow honest citizens manage to police themselves, as opposed to keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. The same gun law I talked about earlier, that Taylor repeated, also allows people to purchase guns without even a background check if it was manufactured in Arizona. Gun ownership fuels anti-government fanaticism, that some redneck with an assault rifle somehow knows better than everyone else what’s right for our country, kind of like the Tea Party protestors who don’t realize taxes were cut for 98% of working people and refunds average 10% higher than the previous year (http://ctj.org/pdf/truthaboutobamataxcuts.pdf).

  38. Emily says:

The rights and wrongs of the law can be fairly debated by fairminded people. I personally have problems with it and would not like this encroachment of the state into the lives of private citizens. (I don’t live in the US)
However I think you are being willfully blind if you cant see it
    1) enacts already existing Federal law into state legislation.
    2) is an attempt to force the Federal government to come to the aid of Arizona and sort out the massive problems caused by illegal drug trafficking. (Specifically the associated out of control violence) – A situation the Federal government has chosen to ignore for years.
    3) and @ Angelica I have no great love of the police, but have you considered how many of those ‘racist’ cops will be Hispanic?

  39. omggmab says:

Put Arizona on the bus so it can implode into the Grand Canyon! whosonthbus@blogger.com

  40. Grace says:

I know this is an old article but it’s amazing to know that USA has some laws that are just as crappy as the South African ones. Only thing is that on this side of the ocean you have white cops who are scared to question black immigrants because it will be classified as racism and right behind them are black cops that harrass every black immigrant just for money. And in South Africa it’s even worse if you do not speak at least 3 or more of the 11 official languages and yes I still have my fellow black (am black by the way – so am not being racist) sisters and brothers who refuse to work but enjoy harrassing foreigners because they think that foreigners take their jobs yet those are jobs they can not do…

  41. Haywood Jablome says:

If you don’t like their concept of law, then don’t go to Arizona. If you don’t live in Arizona, then shut up, because the law does not apply to you – although the identical Federal statue does. If that bothers you, then write your congressman and demand he attempt to repeal it. To complain about a sovereign state solving its problems is asinine. That is why we have fifty states, because the people govern themselves differently around the country. I know the concept of the Fed ruling every aspect of your life is one you are accustomed to, but wake up.
