Important Lipstick Advisory

If I were on the Titanic (and all the news hints that I am, along with the rest of you) I would be the one running to put on more red lipstick.

Therefore, I have purchased this new lipstick by MAC, from its new Dame Edna line. First of all, the packaging is glittery and awesome, Then, the lipstick case itself is adorable. Much prettier than in this picture.

I chose “Kanga Rouge,” a creamy blue red. I prefer a matte lipstick, but what the hell. Who am I to say no to this one, especially as it’s less greasy than most non-mattes.

I recently learned that Dame Edna is married to my ex-husband’s cousin Lizzie, which further proves that Sister Wolf is always three degrees or less from everybody, including the Queen of England and the previous Pope.

On a sadder note, I was stupid enough to buy a new matte lipstick by Revlon (eeoow!) which looked beautiful on the display thingy at CVS, but turned out to be a HORRIBLE brick red that looks like rust. It’s called “In the Red” but a better name would be “In the Waste-basket.”

Sister Wolf – – – Nothing is sacred.

“ATLANTA: Lipsticks tested by a US consumer rights group found that more than half contained lead and some popular brands including Cover Girl, L’Oreal and Christian Dior had more lead than others, the group said on Thursday.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics said tests on 33 brand-name red lipsticks by the Bodycote Testing Group in Santa Fe Spring, California, found that 61% had detectable lead levels of 0.03 to 0.65 parts per million (ppm).

Lipstick, like candy, is ingested. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition of public health, environmental and women’s groups, said the FDA has not set a limit for lead in lipstick.”

Not with a bang but with a powder puff.

(Sorry T.S. Please don’t roll over in you grave it’s just a little satire. Anyway, I’m down to eating 2lbs of lipstick per year instead of my usual 3lbs).

Den Den -Wrong! Lipstick IS sacred, my child.

  3. Swayframe says:

MAC lipsticks always dry out my lips bad. Does this happen to you?

  4. Stay away from the cheap stuff only good quality (lead or no lead) ones will do – everyone needs red lipstick and in a variety of shades. At the last count I had 3 Chanel and 2 laura mercier.

  5. Love the MAC lipstick! I’ve been wearing Lipstick Queen’s “Saint Red.”

  6. honeypants says:

It is extremely hard for me to pull off a true red. In the rare cases that I do, it needs constant maintenance, which is more than I usually have the patience for. But next time I’m at the MAC store, I’ll check this one out. I AM a sucker for packaging!!!

P.S. We just had our first Sephora store open a couple of months ago. I walked in and was greeted by about 10 people. One asked me “So what brings you to Sephora?” I matter of factly replied “Addiction.” She laughed and said that was the best response she’s ever heard, and she’d be sharing it at the next meeting or huddle or whatever they call it at Sephora. I couldn’t leave without spending at least $75, and then I ran over to the MAC store afterwards to buy a sorry substitute for the item I fell in love with at Sephora (but it was sold out).

  7. swayframe – they used to crack and dry out my lips too, although it could be my skin type – always have dry lips. and i haven’t used them in a while, so I don’t know if this is still true.
love that mac is using dame edna.

I might have to try this color based on your recommendation. And the more lead the merrier, is what I always say.

  9. HelOnWheels says:

Love it that MAC’s is using Dame Edna! I think they had an Eddie Izzard (my other favorite transvestite) lippy line a few years back. Will have to check it out even though I can’t wear most red lipstick.

  10. Sister Wolf says:

Swayframe -Yep, some of the mattes are very dry.

Makedo -List the colors for godsake!

Iheartfashion -I have the “Sinner Red”, but you must have guessed that.

Honeypants: Hahahaha! What product are you looking for??

fashion herald -What’s weird is that some colors aren’t as dry: Russian Red isn’t nearly as dry as Ruby Woo. Even the MAC counter-girls admit it.

Wendy B- HA! May I borrow that motto?

HelOnWHeels – I KNOW there’s a red out there that would be perfect for you!

  11. Jools says:

Bobbi Brown “Raisin”. Hmmmm never occurred to me before “raisin” may not be the descriptive word for the look I’m going for.

  12. Swayframe says:

Maybe I’ll give MAC another chance at my lips, then, if I can find a less-drying formula.
