Romance Was Born Winter 2011

This sequin cheongsam is the one item for 2011 that has stopped me in my tracks.   No shearling, no studs, no leather, no grown-up minimalism.   Just a crazy shimmering rainbow of goodness.

We all need that dress, perhaps a little more modestly cut on that split for some of us. I think I may need the shoes too, she can keep the fruit.

  2. E says:

I’ll take two (if it has a sequin on it’s mine).
I will also festoon my Docs with silk flowers and raid the fruit bowl in readiness.
This is like a breath of Spring and a big squirt of anti-crap spray all in one – thank you Sister W.

  3. Crystal says:

Hahaha this is great! I love that the clothing is a mix of fun, serious, and irreverent. I wish I had reasons to wear fruit hats.

  4. Jean says:

Ever since I saw this collection I’ve decided this dress needs to be in my life. Some how I’ll make it happen!

  5. Witch Moma says:

This dress, shoes & hat were an absolutely beautiful way to start my Monday morning – Thanks SW. I love it.

  6. Chandra says:

I am in love. My hips are too big for this, sure is nice to ogle and want, want, want.

  7. David Duff says:

Who was that lady who used to wear bananas in her hair and singalong with a Latin-American dance band before and just after the war? Anyone here old enough to remember?

  8. E says:

    Carmen Miranda!

  9. I take one of those to brighten up my days!

  10. drollgirl says:

well i hate it! FRUIT LOOP! but if i was a kid dressing up, i KNOW i would be all over this!

  11. Ann says:

My entire wardrobe consists solely of black, white, grey and brown. I can’t even visualize what that dress would look like on me, but I love it on the model. However, despite the monotone colors in my closet, I would wear the SHIT out of those shoes.

  12. liz says:

Although I mainly wear dark colors, I absolutely love Romance Was Born, I think I’ve written about them a couple times too many on my blog. I want everything I look at it to be such beautiful crazy raver club kid madness. It brings a little joy into my day.

  13. ellio100 says:

Oh this is such a happy-looking dress. I think everybody should have one stashed away to wear on glum days.

  14. Erika says:

i am really liking the flowery cheongsams and fruity bright prints. Me want them.

  15. dust says:

    I’m more of a vegetable person…

  16. David Duff says:

Carmen Miranda! Of course it was, thank you, ‘E’.

I wonder what reminded me of her?

  17. Nickie Frye says:

YIKES! But what’s with the slit?? Woah Nellie!! 🙂

  18. Perucha says:

Wow sister, I’m so confused. This is one of your sarcastic posts, right? RIGHT??????

  19. Cricket9 says:

I love the basket pattern print and how they used it; there also is a little blue and green kimono that I’d like to have.

  20. Andra says:

Strangely and horribly enough, I recently had a quite nasty experience caused by looking at a VERY, VERY fat Australian female in a rather similar outfit. She seemed to think she was a singer/sex symbol and or Cher.
    Frightened me.

  21. Cybill says:

Oh god Andra, I really hope that wasn’t me.

  22. Sister Wolf says:

    Cybill – HAhahahahahahahahahahahha!

  23. Sister Wolf says:

    e – I’m glad you like it!

Crystal – I wish I could walk in heels!

Jean – Fingers crossed for you.

  24. Sister Wolf says:

Witch Mama – Yay! Glad you like it.

Chandra – Yep, it’s all about Want.

  25. TheShoeGirl says:

    I NEED THOSE SHOES!

  26. tartandtreacly says:

Urgh. How very “The Studio 54 World of Suzie The Artist Formerly Known as Carmen Miranda Wong”.

  27. tartandtreacly says:

They also have shoes with what looks like stuffed Fu lions on them and CHOPSTICKS. That’s some good crack the designers are smoking. Either that or there was a clearance sale at some chintzy Asian shop in the mall.

Would totally wear if I were an Asian drag queen or doing a burlesque version of “Farewell My Concubine”. Otherwise, pass.

  28. Joy D. says:

I like Andra experience the best.

  29. james says:

Andra – I honestly think that was me. (Not joking) Did you see ‘her’ in melbourne? Because I wore something super similar to that and I sometimes look like a very very very fat woman who is delusional and think she’s cher.

  30. Liz says:

Holy shit. That’s practically my Dream Dress. And I’ve been fantasizing about making one of those fruity headdresses for EVER–but the fruit should be sparkly too. thanks for the inspiration!

  31. Andra says:

James, sorry ducks. The nastiness was inflicting herself on the good people of Cairns.
As if the floods weren’t enough all over the state!
