Let’s Cast the Trial!

If you live in the US, I’ll assume that you’re following the Casey Anthony murder trial. If you live somewhere else, you don’t know what you’re missing!

The trial has everything you could possibly ask for, except for O. J. Simpson. Every character is compelling in his or her own way. The movie won’t be as gripping but it still has potential.

Casey herself is a real piece of work and as guilty as sin. Guilty, your honor! Duh! If Winona Ryder were still young, she would be ideal for the role of Casey. Meanwhile, I’m going to go with Ellen Page. I think she would do a great job as the sulky, sociopathic young murderess.

In the role of Cindy Anthony, I’ve cast Edie Falco.   It’s a no-brainer, right? My friend Andy would like the tragically decrepit  Ryan O’Neil as Ray Kroc, the meter reader who found the skull in the woods.   I’m leaning toward Andy Garcia as that idiot Jose Baez.

Casting suggestions, anyone??

I’d like to nominate Nancy Grace to play herself, although I suppose this will be difficult in the event that Casey Anthony is acquitted because Nancy Grace’s head will inevitably explode.

  2. annemarie says:

I live in the US, but I only started reading occasional CNN articles on it a few weeks ago and cannot make head nor tail of it.

Why would she have killed her daughter? One article said that all her friends had testified that she was a good mom.

  3. annemarie says:

    Frank Langella for George Anthony.

  4. I’m wondering who will take the roles in the movie destined to be made about Amanda Knox. Now that’s another crazy story!

  5. MG says:

Good casting job! This story is so sad but it’s turning into a joke now that her father is saying Caylee drown. Uh, ok. That is when you call 911 like a normal person, you asshole.

  6. Marky says:

Tina Fey as Nancy Grace. Rebecca Hall might give Ellen Page a run for her money in the competition to play Casey.

I was thinking: isn’t it about time that some nude photos from Nancy Grace’s past showed up somewhere on the Internet?

  7. the real andrea says:

Mackenzie Phillips as Casey, I think she really looks like her. But what’s up with her hairline? She looks like that Lawrence Welk character that Kristen Wiig plays on Saturday Night Live. Amy Poehler would do a mean Nancy Grace. I love the other castings- especially Ryan O’Neal. Perfect!

  8. Andy says:

Natalie Portman as the duct tape

  9. Ann says:

RIGHT ON with Edie Falco as Cindy Anthony! I’m feeling Martin Sheen as George Anthony. And for brother Lee, let’s go with the ever-useless Ben Affleck.

  10. Liz says:

Winona would be good, ellen page, hmm, a maybe. Am I crazy in thinking dakota fanning would be good if she was a couple years older?

  11. Tanya says:

Dermot Mulroney with 40 extra pounds would make a good Lee Anthony, the brother. I’d cast Wendell Pierce from “The Wire” as the judge. The unfortunate Tobey Maguire should play the boyfriend. Nice call with Edie Falco as the mother. How about Tom Sizemore in the role of the lead investigator? I don’t think he’d cost us too much. I can’t come up with a better candidate than Ellen Page, partly because I don’t want to see Natalie Portman in anything ever again.

  12. Suebob says:

I don’t know anything about this case other than there is a dead child and a mother accused of killing her (I don’t have a TV). I just don’t think it is entertainment or gossip, and that it is being cast as such makes me sick.

  13. Sister Wolf says:

    Tanya – TOM SIZEMORE! Brilliant.

Suebob – You need a TV. If you’d watched this crazy bitch lying to police and entering dance contests while her kid was “missing” you might develop a deep need to see her punished. Or maybe you are just on a higher plane, Suebob. xo

    Andy – Hahahahahahahhaha.

Ann – Martin Sheen, Ben Affleck, you should do this professioally.

  14. Sister Wolf says:

Rackk and Ruin – YES. I can’t understand if she’s guilty or not though, can you??

  15. AmandaMichele says:

Can I vote for George Hamilton for the dad? I dont think anyone else could be as bad an actor on the stand while capturing that waspy weirdness so well.

  16. brunehilda says:

    Stockard Channing as Dr.G

Dr.G has to be in it even just to point out that people usually call 911 when their children “drown”

  17. Tina says:

Rackk and Ruin–There’s a really shitty Lifetime movie about Foxy Knoxy–I guess shitty and Lifetime are a bit redundant….

  18. Witch Moma says:

Jan Hooks as “the real” paternal grandmother, who just surfaced last week.

  19. Ann says:

AmandaMichele is right – George Hamilton.

  20. Tallulah Eulallie says:

Casting suggestions? How about casting that worthless bitch into a lake of fire?

  21. Zan says:

@sisterwolf: You totally perfectly cast this.

The coverage of this whole thing has been over-the-top ridiculous, but it is terribly fascinating/gruesome/horrific.

  22. Marky says:

    Tallulah Eulallie: LOL

  23. Andra says:

This woman is so fucking evil, and crazy. A really, really bad combination.

  24. Aly says:

Jacki Weaver (who played the mom in Animal Kingdom) would be a serious contender for Edie Falco as Cindy.

  25. sisty says:

Revisions to the cast are in order, now that she’s been acquitted.

  26. Iron Chic says:

Jesus! I haven’t had a tv in three months..I’m in a hotel catching up on this trial.
The Google search stuff is getting me…..like “neck breaking” and such. Also the not reporting her missing for 30 days. How do you explain those things?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!

  27. RLC says:

Oh Laurence Fishburne as that judge, for sure!

  28. Perucha says:

Sister, Amanda Knox has been played hayden panettiere in a TV movie already. She plays the part really well, given she looks like a confused teen herself.
