Artist Ray Caesar begins his biography with this:
I was born in London, England on October 26 1958, the youngest of four and much to my parent’s surprise, I was born a dog.
I just discovered him tonight. Nobody ever tells me anything!

I’ve seen this painting around before on ffffound and tumblr and I have it saved somewhere on my computer but I never knew who the artist was! I love when I can finally pair a name with art/photos I’m familiar with, thanks for sharing!

Wonderful – love his thematic quality. I’m going to really piss you off now and say I’m going to see the piece of work he is doing/done for Bristol City Museum when I’m next there. I would say I’ll take a pic but my camera skills are pretty rubbish. So fingers crossed there is a postcard!
I’m thinking you may want to checkout Tatsuyuki Tanaka, Trevor Brown, or even Zdzislaw Beksinski? Well, they’re some of my favourites at least!

Ray Caesar’s art is something else! So delightfully creepy. If you haven’t already, you should read about his technique (it’s written up on his website, or at least it used to be) – it’s fascinating. I was so surprised when I first learned that it wasn’t painting in the traditional sense.
Nobody ever tells me anything either. I love those paintings. Particularly “French Kiss”. What talent. Sometimes I wish I had artistic talent, but when I see someone like Ray Caesar’s work, I know it could never work. My brain doesn’t work the same way.

Thanks for sharing! I loved his interview. He’s got Toronto down pat, and I love the fact that some of his girls are really boys with dresses on, and his candor about where this idea came from.

Emma, thanks for mentioning Beksinski – he’s incredible. Long time ago as a student of art history I had a privilege to read his letters to a director of a gallery which supported him for years. He was funny, witty and wrote very well.
