Simply Perfect

A white shirt with black trousers and red lipstick. This picture makes me sad for every other garment and cosmetic item, which are all clearly superfluous.

  1. David Duff says:

That is the most attractive fashion shot I have ever seen on this site. As my old Art School lecturer used to say, “The essence of good design is simplicity”. And the bright red shoes are exactly right.

  2. I’ve just got up off the floor after reading Mr Duff’s comment why he’s turned in to fashion journalist with the red shoes remark!

It is the most perfect picture and the simplicity of the look is the wow factor not try hard hats etc.

  3. skye says:

That outfit would make me look like a dumpy waitress, with unpleasantly bulbous lips. So don’t have misplaced sympathy for the rest of the garments and cosmetics, they still have a home with all the rest of us who do not have your cool zen sex bomb vibe!

  4. Jean says:

Sometimes there is nothing nicer than a simple white shirt

  5. court says:

    absolutely RIGHT.

you’re kicking me in teh ass to finally get a good white blouse.

  6. David Duff says:

Just for you, MDS, I shall wear red shoes when next I wear my famous long Johns – which will not be long, what with all this global warming!

  7. deja pseu says:

This is my style nirvana. You’re right; it just doesn’t get any better than this.

  8. Honeybee says:

Classic and undeniably sexy. Sister you got style!

  9. Cat says:

The color of that lipstick!!!! ok, so I’m going lipstick shopping tomorrow.

  10. tartandtreacly says:

    It’s a little Tina Chow – I love it!

  11. Witch Moma says:

    I. Love. This. Look.

  12. candy says:

Was it that hard? In the labyrinth of fashion, designers are trying to find sense with clogs and yeti shoes, but the answer was in front of us: simplicity. was it that hard?

  13. kt says:

Should the universe decide to magically grant me a crap ton of money, I would only wear tailored dress shirts and trousers, in every color and fabric possible. At least I can still daydream!

  14. Tricia says:

This is why Ralph Lauren has been raking in the $$ all through the recession, and grows every year.

  15. sisty says:

The red shoes are a teeny bit of overkill, I think, but the rest of the outfit is gorgeous, including the red lipstick. And I don’t think you need a crap ton of money to pull this off (except maybe the cleaning bills/replacement costs of the white shirt).

  16. Andra says:

Mr D Duff, you and I are as one. Oh bliss.

  17. Mary says:

    Yes. That is all.

  18. The antithesis of fashion overload, this is perfection. Subtle yet dramatic because of its simplicity.

  19. Andra says:

Sisty, the red shoes are just fine.
And people, note, this lady has hips!!

  20. Cricket9 says:

What a relief for the eyes. Thanks, SW!

  21. Aja says:

I’m with Skye on this one. I would look awful in that get up. Like the female version of Alber Elbaz (nowhere near as charming on cute). And while I enjoy dressing that way sometimes, this outfit seems like it would be a failure on me.

  22. David Duff says:

Splendid, gel, that Andra, and such good taste!

  23. Cat says:

Andra is right! Hips people, hips!!!!! when was the last time we saw them on the runway?

  24. Sleek, minimal perfection. SW you would own this look.

  25. james says:

We need to contact head PR at Ralph Lauren and have them send you this look! This would look fantastic on you! 🙂

  26. Joy D. says:

This is such a simple look. Although I love to pile on the layers during winter as necessity I would prefer to just rock a simple shirt, tailors slacks, and simple lip color.
