The Miracle of the Flat Iron

I was going to a wedding on Sunday, so my friend Andy insisted on  straightening  my hair for the occasion. It’s the first time I’ve ever had my hair flat-ironed.

It’s so silky and it looks so much longer! But I can’t afford to do this on a regular basis and I wonder why we all want the kind of hair we don’t have. It’s probably the same  reason  we all want a body shape that doesn’t come naturally either.

I’ve been going around feeling superior to everyone without long straight hair. Tomorrow after I wash it, I’ll turn back into a  pumpkin.

If anyone lives in L.A. and you want good hair, Let me know and I’ll hook you up with Andy, whose  Salon  is in Santa Monica.

As for the  wedding, It was the most glorious and romantic occasion you could ask for! The bride and groom are both in their forties and had nearly given up on finding someone to love. But when they   met, it was clear to all that they were soulmates at the deepest level. The bride was breathtaking in her satin gown and swirling veil and I did her red lipstick. Their love is like an orchid blooming in a wasteland. It proves that good things still happen.

I’m grateful for the miracle of love and flat-irons.

Oh my! such straightness and such red lips. So wonderful.
So happy to hear about your friends.
I don’t think I have ‘nearly given up’ on finding someone to love.
    I’ve given up. Full stop.
    I think…

  2. You look amazing Sister Wolf. You were made for flat ironing baby.

  3. Kellie says:

That is fabulous hair!!! Can you get a Target special on a flat iron, and try doing it yourself???

I spend so much time putting some sort of bend/curl into mine. We do always want what we dont have.

You look great in general, by the way!!!

  4. regularstarfish says:

It looks great. I just straighten my own hair – I never pay someone to do it.

  5. sharnek says:

We should never give up on love. (this goes for you too Queen Marie, a prince is out there for you)

    Love the hair sister.

  6. tobilynne says:

    Gorgeous! (as always!)

  7. David Duff says:

Well, I do the ironing in this house – see, I knew my army training would come in useful one day – but were I to attempt to iron the ‘Memsahib’s’ hair I can guess where the iron would end up – ouch!

  8. Dru says:

I’m all for the powers of hair straightening, but using a flatiron too often is hell on the hair. Still, I’m glad you like having all that straightness to swish around.

  9. Amazing! Andy did you proud. Love the fact you did the red lips for the bride and so glad of such happiness xx

  10. Cat says:

“I’ve been going around feeling superior to everyone without long straight hair” hahah I know EXACTLY what you mean….

Congrats to your friends! Nothing is more appreciated than that which we thought was out of our reach forever <3 and grateful happiness is the best of them all!

    You look stunning =).

  11. Lara says:

It looks gorgeous! I especially like the pieces in the front!

If you decide to try it at home, you can get nice ceramic flat irons for pretty cheap now, with variable settings on them.

Oh, and there are sprays to prep your hair with to protect it from the heat. I just use this drugstore stuff and it works great!

Congrats to your friends! Love a good soulmate story!

  12. Ann says:

Beautiful hair, beautiful story. Love always wins.

I flat iron my own hair anytime I want straight hair! It’s easy, though tedious and time consuming with hair as long as ours, Sister. Granted, good flat irons are expensive as hell, but I think they’re worth it!

  13. Witch Moma says:

Will flat-ironing your hair make it look thicker?

  14. Juli says:

You look great Sister! I’m at a loss as to how I ever lived without my flat iron. It’s the best. But it does kill my hair, regardless of the products you use to make it less harsh. So have to look like a lion a few days of the week.

  15. Andy says:

You look great! So very much not like a lesbian! I told you you would like it!

  16. regularstarfish says:

Yes – definitely go with the ceramic ones if you get one for the house. They cost more but you will regret getting the $14 non-ceramic one immediately because they absolutely fry your hair.

  17. Heidi says:

You look so hot — I love it! That wedding sounds fabulous too 🙂

  18. Caro says:

Love in the 40s… sigh. It’s the Holy Grail of single 39 year old ladies everywhere. I’ve pretty much stopped looking / stopped hoping. But you never know…

  19. Iron Chic says:

I always separate the history of my life into two parts: B.F. (before flatiron) and A.F. (after flatiron)
My niece will never know an existence without flatiron.

  20. Taylor says:

It looks great! And the red lipstick looks great too. I wish I knew how to do my own hair well, sadly, I just don’t. I’m hopeless.

  21. Muffy says:

Sister, just discovered the joys of the flat iron a month ago. Great minds think alike and love the look.

  22. kikie says:

Spectular hair SW. I have grown my hair for the first time in my life and I am 46, I am so over the rule of cutting your hair when you are 40. If it’s silky and lush like yours, then rock it

  23. kikie says:

    Whoops *spectacular……pity I can’t rock the spelling

  24. Emily says:

    I have a big-time crush on you.

  25. Andra says:

    I love a happy story.
And your hair looks fantastic. And that’s why I hate you!
    Love
    Andra

  26. Aja says:

Every single time you see a picture of me and I have bangs in front with a straight cut, I have sat in a salon chair for +3 hours while a stylist blows out and flat irons my hair. It sucks that that’s what I do about every two weeks (and the rest of the month I pull it back into a bun or braids). Not only is it a gigantic time suck but also costly. One day, I’m going to go natural and forget about this nonsense.

  27. Dave C says:

    Wow – you look ravishing!

  28. MRKT says:

    You look gorgeous, SW.

It’s so good to hear about your friends’ love. I’m just losing mine – my husband, my closest friend, my dearest love is becoming my foe. Something twisted in his brain is taking him away from me, and I can’t do a thing.

I wear beautiful red lips now, though…

    xxx, mrkt

  29. candy says:

I think you are beautiful a always. I have long hair like you but I’m tired of it because as you said, I want something I don’t have.

  30. EJ says:

GHDs- expensive, but worth it. Though I can imagine not being arsed about straightening your own hair when it’s that long, when mine was almost as long as yours it used to take half an hour of blowdrying just to get it dry, let alone style it.

  31. kate says:

oh why why why did i cut my long hair into a bob? why why why!

  32. Perucha says:

    You look so pretty

  33. Queen Michelle says:

My goodness you look utterly stunning! There are few things finer than a woman with a lush mane of long, dark hair and red lips. Beautiful xx

  34. Tricia says:

Definitely spend more money on a good flatiron, otherwise it’s just throwing $ away. My hair’s been fried from too much straightening, finally my stylist gave me product to protect it!
